MCSE: Business Intelligence

Microsoft SQL server is one of the industry standard databases used throughout the world. As with any database it cab be used for a variety of purposes and one of these is to bring together data from all areas of an enterprise and build that data into a coherent structure so that Business Intelligence reports can be run off it.

So for instance, a company may bring together parts of its Human Resources data, its Financials data and its Logistics data (that would be held in different databases for both security reasons) into BI database. Reports and dashboards could then be built on top of this hybrid database to discover trends and do what is called ‘what-if’ analysis to see how the company would change in say profitability if the numbers of staff changed etc. The aim is to deliver data in an understandable format from disparate databases to the organisation.
