In our series of finding more about people and their jobs we interviewed a Wordpress developer and ask him about his job.
Course Feeder (CF): Hi, what is your name and what is your job title?
Louis Maloney (LM): My name is Loui Maloney and I'm a freelance Wordpress developer
CF: How long have you been a Wordpress developer?
LM: I've been a Wordpress Developer for about 5 years (but a web developer/programmer for nearly 15 years)
CF: What made you want to be a Wordpress developer?
LM: I started using Wordpress as it's a great system for quickly developing websites, which keeps cost down for clients. In fact for many types of websites there are out of the box solutions such as Woocommerce for online stores.
CF: What relevant Wordpress developer qualifications do you hold?
LM: I have a computer science degree and various web qualifications that are all relevant to developing in Wordpress.
CF: How long did it take you to qualify as a Wordpress developer?
LM: It took me about 2 years to become really competent in Wordpress
CF: What qualities do you have that make you a good Wordpress developer?
LM: To be able to pay attention to detail, patience, do a lot of reading.
CF: What does a typical day as a Wordpress developer look like for you?
LM: My daily routine varies some days I might be programming all day, other days I have to do the business side of things such as networking, marketing, accounts, invoices and so on.
CF: What is the best thing about being a Wordpress developer?
LM: You get to create great websites and web solutions for clients and help their online business grow.
CF: If you weren't a Wordpress developer, what would be your dream job and why?
LM: Maybe something like a plumber or electrician, you get to work on lots of different houses and so on.
CF: What do you do in you down time?
LM: I like to do a bit of running and travelling / holidaying when get time.
CF: For someone looking to be a Wordpress developer what advice would you give them?
LM: Read a lot, and do a lot of practical work building your own websites and systems. Its hard work but good fun.
CF: What other jobs have you had in the past?
LM: Yes various different jobs (long time ago), mainly in factories and shops. I enjoyed them but found them a bit repetitive.
CF: How does being a Wordpress developer compare to your previous jobs?
LM: More fun, more interesting, more challenging.
