A digital nomad is someone who lives a nomadic lifestyle (work from anywhere), and is able to do this due to the income that they receive from the money they make online. Why work in a job when you don’t have to? Who really wants to spend their entire day stuck in a stuffy office when they can be sat on a beach with their laptop, staring out at vast blue oceans as they work through their daily tasks.
We’ve compiled a list of the top five things that you can do to enable you to slowly slip away from the rat-race and start living the life that you want. As long as you have an internet connection and a laptop the world really is your oyster.
1. Become a freelance web designer
You don’t need a degree or any official qualification to design websites, you only need knowledge and a portfolio of work to show your ability. There are sites such as W3schools.com that provide you with all of the information you need to be able to code, and there are also various free pieces of software known as content management systems, such as Wordpress, that allow you to create a professional looking website with ease and no knowledge of coding.
You can find plenty of clients on websites such as Peopleperhour.com or Upwork.com, or even create your own business website to showcase your talents.
2. Write and Publish e-books
Writing e-books is a growing market, and self-publishing is simple. If you feel you have the talent to write books that people want to read, or have knowledge that you feel is valuable to other people then you can share this with the world by using KDPselect, which is Amazon’s Kindle publishing tool. Google Play and iTunes also allow you to self-publish books with them. The books don’t have to be too long either, many books that are available on Kindle are less than 10,000 words, but are sharing information people want.
3. Create your own blog
You don’t need to be a technical wiz kid to create a blog. You can do this simply with sites such as Wordpress and hosting your own website. Blogging is no guarantee of financial success, but there are more and more bloggers that are hitting six-figure salaries. How do they do this? They create genuinely awesome content that engages the reader and keeps them coming back while at the same time displaying adverts and affiliate advertising to create their income.
4. Become a freelance writer
More and more people are creating their own websites, and those websites need content. For most people this is far too time consuming to complete on their own and this is where people need help. From anything to blog posts, news articles, product descriptions or ‘about us’ pages, if you’re fairly skilled with words, grammar and punctuation you can use freelancing sites like Peopleperhour.com and Upwork.com to connect with people who need your help.
5. Create and Publish Online Courses
Online courses are getting a bigger and bigger audience online, and if you have knowledge that other people want then you can use videos, pdf documents and screen capture software to create your own course. You can promote these course with sites like Udemy, so that you can set your price and share the profit with the person who promoted the course.
