A database developer is the person in a company who knits together a HTML interface with the back-end workings or a web site on mobile app. Typically trained in HTML, Java, PHP and MySQL, the database developer is an important part of any internet business.

What Does a Database Developer Do?

As a database developer, you would be responsible for maintaining and developing existing databases and designing, testing and developing new databases.

The responsibilities of a database developer vary depending on your employer's requirements, you will generally find yourself designing and creating a new database to fulfil a specific need or requirement, editing and modifying existing databases, maintaining databases, providing technical support to the people who use the databases and fixing any faults or bugs that develop within the databases. 

As a database developer, your working hours will usually be Monday to Friday during office hours.

What Qualifications Do I Need To Become a Database Developer?

Whilst you can take courses and gain qualifications in database development and you do need knowledge of specific software, you don't actually need any qualifications to be able to do the job.  That's not to say they won't help you to get the job.  As with many other industries, if you can show experience and expertise in what you do then that is all you need.
